Sun, sea, sand and........a medical check-up?

Taking a holiday in Northern Cyprus? There are more health benefits than you think.

‘Medical check-up’ programs have been offered at the ‘Cyprus Life’ hospital, in Nicosia, in Northern Cyprus, for the last year at a fraction of the cost offered in most other European countries. This is by no means a cheap deal with regard to the facilities or personnel they are, respectively, brand new and highly-trained, and they are at your disposal.

The General Manager is Gunhan Nalbantoglu, he has worked in London, Los Angeles and in his native North Cyprus. He tells me that their ‘check-up programs’ were heavily researched before their recent launch, not only to give value for money but to offer a comprehensive testing program. “Last year, I spent six months in London, talking to many specialists and health officials on all aspects of our business”, he tells me. He is very enthusiastic, and I get the impression he is very proud to be at the head of this establishment. He continues, “Our doctors have been recruited as specialists in their fields, they have trained and practised in hospitals worldwide. For a small hospital, in a small country, we are fortunate to have such experienced & qualified people.” The size of the hospital was something I was going to mention. Whilst the hospital has 5 floors, it is only the size of a small block of flats, I asked Gunhan why this was, “To maintain quality of care,” he says, as if it was obvious.

So what do you get for your money? If you are a male, under 50 years old, you will have 21 bio-chemical tests from blood, urine, and stool samples. (These include the important prostate test.)
In radiology, you will have a chest x-ray and abdominal ultra-sound. You will be asked general health questions and be examined by a physician, followed by a dental examination and an eye test.
Finally, you will undergo an ‘effort-test’ and an ECG. Total cost, a pretty amazing £190. Over 50s pay £210, and will also have a urology test included.

For the ladies, extras included are a mammogram, smear test, bone scan, uterus and ovarian ultrasound and a gynaecological examination. If you are 45 years or under, the price is £240, for over 45s, the cost is £270.

Gunhan tells me the cost of the same tests in the UK would cost nearly £2500.

So if you fancy a holiday in Northern Cyprus to enjoy the sun, sea, sand and hospitality of the Turkish Cypriots, take a little extra cash, take some time out, and pay a visit to the ‘Cyprus Life’ hospital. You may be glad you did.

Note.

My husband and I have been through the program and we were, frankly, astounded at the level of technology, equipment and expertise at this small hospital. We were handled with care, and escorted to the various departments by a young lady that was very concerned to make sure we were comfortable with all the proceedings. The staff could not have been more friendly or welcoming.

Before we left, Dr Kenan, the Consultant Cardiologist and one of the hospitals Directors, explained all our results, and presented them, with all our scans and x-rays in their relevant folders, in a large envelope to take with us.

As an aside, when I called to make our bookings I was asked, “When would you like to come in, would tomorrow be ok?” How’s that for service?

General Manager Gunhan Nalbantoglu can be contacted direct on cyplh@cyplh.com or 0392 225 5570 (int. dialling code required) If required, ‘Cyprus Life’ will send a car to collect, and return you, to your accommodation. No food or drink should be taken on the morning of the tests; breakfast – for which there is no cost - will be given at the hospital after your first samples are taken.
